Why should you adopt?
There are so many reasons why you should choose adoption over buying from a store or breeder. The most important reason is that you will be saving a life and making more room in the rescue for another one to come in and be saved.
Our Adoption Process:
We want to ensure each and every one of our dogs goes to an excellent home, so we have a very thorough adoption process. Here is a brief overview of what you can expect when applying to adopt a Jasper County Humane Society dog:
1. Adoption Application – Complete your application here: https://form.jotform.com/231198624099061
2. Review – Your application is reviewed. This includes vet check, reference check and property ownership verification or landlord approval. We not only take into consideration your history as a responsible pet owner but if the dog(s) for which you have applied are a good fit for you. Please know our priority is placing our animals in the right home for them.
3. Meet & Greet – Meet your potential new dog! This can happen several different ways such as: on neutral ground if you already have a pet or it could be during the home visit. Each adoption case is different.
4. Home Visit – Once your application is approved, the next step is a home visit. Your home doesn’t have to be spotless, and it is totally okay if it looks like you live there! We just want to ensure it will be a safe environment for your new dog and you are prepared for your new addition.
5. Trial - Once the meet and greet has occurred, and all seem eager to move forward, we want you to welcome the dog into your home for a trial period. We ask that it be a long sleepover when you have several days to devote to this new addition. We want to make sure ALL living bodies involved are happy with this new arrangement and lifestyle. It may take 3 days, it may take 7 - this will totally be dependent on you.
5. Finalization – The last and best step! You love your foster dog and want it to be part of your family forever! Let your adoption coordinator know, and we will begin to prepare your adoption packet. This will include the adoption contract. This can be done thru email, or we may want to come in person to tell our baby goodbye!! Once the adoption is finalized, the dog is officially yours, and the microchip will be transferred into your name!!

Roscoe is fully vetted, and really needs a home where he doesn't need to be walked...
We can only assume that the leash reminds him of his life on a chain and he doesn't like to walk on one....We have used a harness, which is better, and with patience he would be fine.

He came in with Sydney on 2/26/25 ~ that's 102 days of being incarcerated in a hostile environment!!!

PRIOR to that, he was left ABANDONDED for at least 30 days before AC was notified!!!
I have told him for months "WE ARE COMING ~ YOU'RE NEXT"...

She has a heart as big as the moon 🌕 and enough love to fill an empty ocean 🌊
🌟 She loves people of all sizes and just wants to crawl into your lap and lay her head....
Her breeding shows she is a powerful girl, but becoming beaten down inside AC.
She exhibits a high prey drive with other dogs; HOWEVER, she has come ALONG way with some slow introductions in a short period of time!!
➡️ Do we blame her behavior on breeding? Rottie/Dobie/Shep??
➡️ Do we blame her behavior on her upbringings? Having no socialization skills with other dogs?
➡️ Do we blame not ever having a handler that she trusts and respects??
These are all questions that we will never know the answer to, but what we DO KNOW: SHE IS DESERVING!!
We do feel, right now, she is better off in a home with no other animals UNTIL she can fully decompress!!!

Peach was found IN A CRATE ON THE SIDE OF A DIRT ROAD!!!
She was brought into AC, and we have secured a temporary foster home for her.
She is young (less than a year), little (20lbs or so) and needs a home.
This little firecracker needs a fenced in backyard where she can be a puppy and have room to run and play!!!
She is FULL of personality and will keep you laughing!!!
We don't know her breed ~ but she's 100% adorable!!!!
She will be spayed soon!!

Ellie May has come a long way in very short amount of time. She came to us only knowing life on a chain.
She had never seen the inside of a house and clearly never known any kind of love or kindness. But she is coming around nicely.
She is now crate trained and house broken and is pretty good on a leash.
She loves a comfy bed and is very respectful of furniture and will not attempt to get on unless asked.
She is now very cat respectful. And shares a house with many outside cats and one inside cat.
She's been wonderful with my big male bully and my 2 teenagers. I think she will make a great addition to any home.

She is an American Bully, has been bred her whole life and never known what life is truly about.

She is so eager to be loved and sits and stares waiting on more to be given to her.

Hi! My name is Murphy.
I was found in the middle of the road. I escaped from my home because my owner kept me on a chain ALL the time. Part of my chain was still on my neck when a nice girl found me. She took my chain off, but my hair is now gray where that mean chain was on my neck
The vet says I am about 4 yrs old and I have had all my shots and am neutered.
They say I am a hound dog but also maybe Rottie because I have a docked tail
I get to go to adoption events where I sit so quietly. The ladies think maybe that is why no one ever sees me. I am so good and if I was loud then maybe people would see me.
The ladies say I have sad eyes and that I need a home all of my own where I can get all the attention that I need. I like attention. They call me a Velcro dog because I like being with people outside.
All the ladies love to kiss my snout. They say I have soft fur and I love it when they kiss me.
I like playing with other dogs, but since I like to chase squirrels, the ladies say I probably would like to chase cats too.
I love little humans and want to lick them. They are my size, and I think that is cool!!!

These 3 brothers were brought in from inadequate living conditions and are all now inside foster homes.

As far as we know, she has always lived in a pen full of filth, so may not know the rules on inside living, BUT she is extremely smart and eager so we fill housebreaking will not be an issue!!!

BEAR ~
Bear was found hidden in a room by a housekeeper, in such filth.... ashamed, the owner gave Bear to her.
She has since been fostering him until we can find him his forever home...
He is young, 1.5 yr old, living inside with other dogs (smalls and larges), and cats.
He is a submissive boy who wants nothing more than to be beside you.
His foster mama has taught him how to potty outside, and not inside as he was so used to doing.
He is very smart, loves to play ball...
He is learning to walk on a leash, and that outdoors is not a scary place.

Bing has a very sad story to tell...
He was brought into AC on 1/24/25 as a stray at 16 weeks old...
6 days later, he tested positive for Parvo and we took him into our program to save him from euthanasia.
He is a fighter and quickly bounced back and we placed him into a loving foster family, where he thrived with other dogs and children...
He was with that foster until 5/18/25, when a young woman was approved to adopt him.
He was not happy in that quiet environment, with just her and her sister with no other stimulation and quickly declined....
He had a similar reaction to a panic attack in humans ~ would not eat or drink, broke out in hives and became depressed within a week
His previous foster was unable to take him back, but we brought him back on 6/2 and placed him into a new foster with similar living conditions ~ kids and dogs and he is ONE HAPPY boy!!!
He is now approximately 8 mos old and only weighs 40lbs!!! We believe he is fully grown, and we know that he needs a home with children and other animals!!
He is fully vetted, housebroken and crate trained!
He is a submissive boy and would be a wonderful addition to any home!!

This is Lenny's foster mom writing ~
This dog has more personality in one paw than a whole sea full of animals.
He makes me laugh on a daily basis but also, I cry.
I cry because we ADORE each other, and as badly as I want him as my own, I have other dogs that will not allow that to happen. I can't crate and rotate any more within my house.
He stays in an outside kennel during the day, and I move him into an indoor kennel at night.
This dog loves me with every inch of his soul, which tells me he understands that he now has someone in his life who is showing him love and attention for the first time ever.
He's about 4, and his face full of scars tells a story, but only one that he knows. I can only use my imagination, which leads me down an angry path.
He is dog friendly, he loves to curl up into a cocoon at night on his bed with his blanket.
I want to see Lenny get inside a home, where he can receive attention ALL day, just not sporadically during our day.
He is a pleaser, an attention seeker, has the heart the size of the moon, and has so much ~ SO MUCH `LOVE to give his person. He deserves so much more than I can provide.

We leave the crate open all day for her to go in and out on her own. She sleeps all night in it with no issues.
She loves her 2 brothers, one is big and one is small.
She loves going outside and lying in the grass. She loves attention and lays on the floor next to me wherever I am, she does not chew things up and is a great inside dog.

Emmi Lou is around 2 years old and such a sweetheart!
While we may not know exactly what breed she is, we know she is definitely 100 percent a love bug.
She has adorable spotted paws that stand out like little socks. Don't let her serious resting face fool you -- this girl has a playful side too!
Emmi is the best of both worlds because she loves to play, but she equally loves to snuggle too! She is so cute when she throws toys up in the air.
Emmi loves big!! She gives the most soulful gazes and just seems to appreciate being inside and being part of a family. She truly wants to soak up any love given to her and will happily stay by your side.
Emmi fully believes she is a lap dog and is always down to curl up in the recliner with you.
It might take a little bit for Emmi to warm up to other canine companions, but once she does, she is super playful. Her best friend is a Goldendoodle that lives next door, and in her foster home, she currently lives with 2 small dogs and a cat.
Emmi is housebroken and crate trained and even will put herself to bed at night.
She has come such a long way during her stay as a foster. At first, she wasn't fully sure what to expect, and my guess is that she had not been treated well previously as her first instinct was to cower. However, with time and lots of love, she has steadily come out of her shell but still appreciates a gentle touch.
She has dutifully been going to adoption events, but it is hard for a girl like Emmi to stand out in the crate as she calmly lies there.
If you schedule a meet and greet, that is when you are really going to see Emmi Lou shine because you will be able to see her true personality.

I am told I was named after a strong and handsome character in a book because a nice lady thought I had the same characteristics.
I was brought into animal control as a 6 mos old puppy with a chain around my neck that had to be cut off of me.
I am now 1 year old and still don't have a family of my own.
After living in animal control for a couple of months, a nice lady took me into her home and fosters me. I have a canine sister that l adore and we play ALL THE TIME!!! I sometimes get on her nerves because she wants to be lazy.

Hi! My name is Ranger and I have lived with Jasper County Humane Society for the longest.
I wandered into someone's garage last year because I was homeless, cold and hungry.
They found me sleeping on their Ranger one morning and I was named for that. They gave me food and water and tried to keep me until my people found me but that never happened, so they had to take me to a scary building where I was terrified.
I had to live there for many months and did not like it.
A nice lady took me to her kennel where she has fostered me all summer. She would throw the ball with me for long periods of time!!! I love the ball!!!
Someone offered to foster me inside their home where I was warm and safe.
They told me what a good boy I was, helped me with my manners, threw the ball with me and I loved their little people.
They had a little senior chihuahua that I liked but one day we had an argument over a piece of food and because I am so much bigger than him, the foster family sent me back. I didn't mean to scare the little dude, I just wanted that piece of food.
My foster dad worked from home and told me what a good boy I was because I liked lying beside him at his desk.
I know how to potty outside and how to be a good boy inside.
I am now back in an outdoor kennel and am sad. I want to go back inside with a family. I don't want a family with cats though!!! They scare me!!
I get to go to all the adoption events and am a pro at it!!! They say I am such a sweet boy and so well behaved as I sit there. But I am getting annoyed. I don't understand why I keep getting shuffled around. I want to find somewhere to stay and never have to leave.

I have had all my shots and am neutered and living in an outdoor kennel at a foster home. I don't like living in a kennel, but in order for them to save my life, this is where I have to live.
But, now it's getting cold, and I want to be inside where it is warm. I see the other dogs go inside a home and I can only dream what that is all about.
I like to play with other dogs, but they say I am not high energy like some of the other dogs. I am a very chill boy that wants nothing more to be with a person.
I love to go on car rides and explore trails. I would love to be in an exciting home where the family would take me to different places for me to sniff.

RIVER ~ FOSTER FAIL
This sweet girl came inside AC not feeling well 💔
We took her for an exam, and it was determined that she suffers from stomatitis, which is an auto immune disorder which causes the tissue in the mouth to become inflamed 💔
This is a treatable condition, which requires a steroid shot and antibiotics when the condition arises 🌟
We now have her in a foster home where she is flourishing and has shown great appreciation to her foster mama that has helped nurse her back to comfort 😍
She is an adult female, has been fully vetted and combo tested negative. 🌟

Jack Sparrow had a rough start in life....
He came inside AC with an infected eye, medication worked, but he was too little to undergo surgery until recently ~
Even tho he was in pain, his purr box never stopped!!!
Fortunately, we had a foster step forward to allow him to get out of AC and into a loving home where he flourished and has now had his surgery and is ready for his own home!!!

My sister and I were left by our daddy, tied to a church many months ago.
My daddy became homeless and had nowhere for us to live so thought someone at the church would take us home to live with them. He left our beds, food and toys but instead a big scary truck came to pick us up and take us into a scary building where we stayed for several weeks.
Some nice ladies took us out because my sister was so scared inside there.
My sister is with a family on a trial, and I am now all by myself in an outdoor kennel where I am cold.
I remember living with my daddy inside a house where I got to sleep in the bed with him.
I am about 4 yrs old and some sort of Setter/Pointer mix. I have had all my shots and am fixed.
I know how to go to the potty outside and not in my home. I am a sweet and goofy boy that loves playing with other dogs. Cats don't bother me. They scare other dogs, but not me.
I LOVE little people!! My daddy used to make me, and my sister pull them around on a cart and I loved that!! I loved to hear their

RESCUED ~ WEEZY
Weezy was found, with 3 others, living in a very small pen, and also tethered.
A woman approached owner and asked if she could have all of them. They agreed to $100 a piece, and finder reached out to us for help.
We have been able to get 2 into a rescue (the mama and grandmama), but Bama and Weezy (siblings) are still in need of a home.
The owners were using them to breed, and lost interest in breeding so dogs just sat tied up.
Weezy is 5 yrs old and we would love for them to go together, but it's not a perfect world, and we know the chances are slim that they can remain together.
He has not been altered as he came to us with some issues (skin, upper respiratory) that we needed to get fixed before having him vetted.
He is now ready to find his family that will love him forever and allow him to be an inside dog with lots of love and attention!!!
He is currently inside the home of the woman that found him, as a foster, along with multiple dogs and children!!
He's extremely laid back and chill!!!

A nice lady took me into her outdoor kennel and gave me medicine, but I still didn't get better so I went to the hospital and spent a few nights having breathing treatments which made me feel so much better.
Once I felt better, another nice lady took me home and is fostering me. I have a big brother that I love to play with and a thing that meows that I like too!!
My doctor says I will probably need medicine for my itchy skin during allergy seasons but maybe when I get bigger and my immune system grows, I won't need any more medicine!!!!
I have had all my shots, and just had my spay surgery yesterday so now they say I can find my own home That makes me excited!!!
I go to the potty outside and am learning how to be calm around people. They just make me so happy!!! I love the way they walk on only 2 legs and I try to do that too!!!
I love to snuggle on the couch and watch football with my foster mom and brother. Sundays are the BEST!!!

What's up?? My name is TANK!!
I was found wandering around. I had an embroidered collar with my name on it, but my family never came looking for me.
I've heard others say that they are the staff favorite, but the truth is I AM THE FAVORITE!!! I am told that on a daily basis as they whisper this into my ear.
I reside at Jasper Shelter, back in a kennel where the sun doesn't shine. This has really made me sad. I wag my tail as they tell me I'm their favorite, but no longer get up in excitement. I miss the sunshine.
I am about 2, maybe 3 and have had all my shots. I am neutered and just lying around waiting patiently on someone to take me into the sunshine.
When they do let me play outside, I love to chase the ball ~ do my zoomies (I'm the king), and then fall into a lap or beside them while my belly is rubbed. My smile is soooo big when I am in the sunshine.
The nice ladies have taken me to an adoption event in place of another dog, and I was sooooo well behaved. The volunteers loved me.
However, the other dog is back, and now there is no room on the van for me, but each time I see the van, I get so excited but then they leave without me, and I am sad again.
I want to be on that van and meet all the people that come to these events. I love people and I love socializing with all the other dogs.
I hear space is full inside the shelter and that dogs need to get out. I hear it's urgent. I sure hope I can be outside in the sun again soon. It's cold and dark in my kennel.

They say I don't like all people, and I guess I don't. People put things on you that hurt and cut you.
The people at animal control say they love me, and I believe them now because they have shown me that they don't hurt me and I love them too.
They are the nicest people to me, and I want to stay here forever, but they say I can't. They say I have to leave because the shelter is full, and I have been here the longest and I need to be nice and learn to trust all people.
I want to trust all people. I need a family that will show me that they are ok and that they won't hurt me. I am a beagle mix and beagles are sweet. I want to be a beagle.

Malcolm is a sweet boy that’s had it rough! He landed in the shelter at 5-6 years old, HW positive. He will live a long and healthy life now. Don’t let the gray face throw you off, he is full of energy and loves to play with his toys.
Well mannered at all adoption events, Loves attention! He has come so far with his foster! Loves to ride, play, walks great on a leash and just wants a bed to call his own!

ELLA Icame to us as an owner surrender, along with 3 other dogs as owner could no longer afford to keep them.
She is a Chiweenie, we believe she is approximately 4 yrs old, she's 13 lbs, she is housebroken, crate trained, microchipped, good with other animals and children. She's the total package!!
She will be spayed 9/23 and will be ready to go!!

Rafiki is a 14 week old Plott Hound
He came in as a stray litter of 5, was the runt and now he's the only one left :(
He is a sweet and playful little man who loves to be held and to give kisses :)
He is inside a foster home with a cat and 3 other dogs!!!
He is housebroken and crate trained!
We believe he will be around 50lbs once fully grown.
He will be required to be neutered in November.
His adoption fee will come with a SpayGa cert to be used at a participating vet, or if local to Jasper County, we provide transport to our vet.

Mimi - ADOPTED
Mimi has quite a sad story….
We pulled her on 2/19, she was a senior that had come in on 1/29 as a stray.
We took her to be spayed by our low cost clinic, but they denied her due to age.
We then took to our vet and he also advised against it.
Did a meet and greet with a foster (they have 2 senior mixes and 2 puppies and a cat) ~ ALL WAS GREAT!!!
A discharge was noticed, and afraid she was cycling, took her to the vet....
X ray showed she had 1 PUPPY and was due any day!!!! OMG ~ WHAT???
She delivered a stillborn baby early last Tuesday morning and had emergency hysterectomy last Tuesday 🥹
She's still in a kennel and is so depressed. All she wants is inside and to be with people!!
She’s about 12, has been used to breed (a gazillion times) and cries down in the kennel. Don’t let age fool you, she still has some spunk!!
When she is let out, she just wants to lay in your lap ~ she loves to go for car rides.
Dog and cat friendly!!!
She has masses on torso (vet says fatty and to leave them alone)
She’s now fully vetted, HW + but has been treated.
She’s precious and we all are wanting her to find a great, loving home!!!

I am roughly 6-8 mos old, and it's believed that I won't grow much more than my current 30lbs!!
I am now inside a foster home, where I am such a good boy and only potty outside, and I will go into my crate if I must!! I have little humans to play with and a couple of canine sisters that like me too!!
I really like it when my humans are close to me. They say I am a velcro dog.

Hi! I am Chewy!!
I was taken to a scary place with my brother after my mama died because the family couldn't care for me. A nice lady came and got us because we were shaking so bad.
I lived in that home for 5 years and the new place was so scary.
My brother has a new home and I now live with a nice lady who is fostering me. She has other little dogs that I like to hang out with.
I have had all my shots and am neutered. I go potty outside with all my brothers and sisters and I like to play in the sunshine.
I am about 15 lbs and like to sit in your lap. I get scared when they take me to the adoption events. I shake and don't like being alone.
The ladies keep saying they can't believe I haven't found a home of my own because I am so sweet. I am not mean. I like to lick faces and be with my foster mom.
I want to find my family soon or they will take me back to an adoption event, which is really scary for me.

I came inside AC because humans failed me, TWICE and this is to NO FAULT of my own!!!
I have the best manners, I am a quiet and smart guy with so much love in my faces, eyes and heart....
I am young, no more than 2 and am housebroken, crate trained and dog friendly.
The people that turned me in said I don't like cats ~ but no one can vouch for that inside AC...
I am a big boy, about 60 lbs, am already vetted and really want to leave animal control.
It is believed that I am part Anatolian Shepherd, which could be true, but I have been told repeatedly that I am quiet handsome.
I do not belong here. Every time the ladies come by my kennel, I wag my tail thinking it's my time to leave, but here I continue to sit.

hip was in a home for several months, and returned due to displacement of his owner….
He’s NOT happy back in the kennel and we are desperately seeking a foster until a permanent home can be found!!!! Chip had to spend 8 weeks in a kennel with limited exercise while recovery from a surgery and HE HATES THE KENNEL!!!
🩵Chip is the sweetest, most loving, goofiest pits we’ve had come thru our doors!!!! 🩵
